MGR specific objectives
The BBNJ Treaty provides specific set of objectives for the fair and equitable sharing of benefits associated with MGRs. These objectives complement the Treaty's overall objective to "ensure the conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity of areas beyond national jurisdiction, for the present and in the long term, through effective implmenetation of the relevant provisions of the Convention an further international cooperation and coordination."
1. The fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from activities with respect to MGRs and digital sequence information on MGRs of ABNJ for the conservation and sustainable use of BBNJ
2. The building and development of the capacity of Parties, particularly developing States Parties to carry out activities with respect to MGRs and digital sequence information on MGRs of ABNJ
3. The generation of knowledge, scientific understanding and technological innovation, including through the development and conduct of marine scientific research, as fundamental contributions to the implementation of the BBNJ Treaty
4. The development and transfer of marine technology in accordance with the BBNJ Treaty
